What to take with you to register a vehicle:

Proof of Florida insurance, a title certificate, a Driver License (Florida or out-of-state) and the car itself. If you have owned the car for less than six months, you will be required to pay sales tax.

The annual renewal fee for a car or light truck ranges from $27.10 to $45.10. Customized plates cost $12 more. Specialty license plates cost an additional $17-$27.

You must apply for a license within 30 days of establishing a permanent residence.

You may need to take a written test of road signs and traffic rules, and pass a vision test. If you have a valid license from another state, you probably won't have to retake the driving portion of the test, but you will need to take a quick vision exam.

Thank goodness you can make an appointment at most of larger offices. The fee to get a license to drive in Florida is about $20 and the license is valid for 6 years.
