Stetson University
History: As Florida's first private university, Stetson University's rich tradition began in 1883 when it was founded by a New York businessman, Henry DeLand, and named for his friend, Philadelphia hat manufacturer John B. Stetson. Today the university maintains two campuses and is building a third center. The DeLand campus serves around 2,500 graduate and undergraduate students in a College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, and School of Music, while the St. Petersburg campus serves around 700 students in the College of Law.
