Lower Wekiva River
From Wekiva Falls, west of Sanford, the Lower Wekiva is a smooth, peaceful flowing river without the clatter and congestion found upriver at the State Park. Here the Wekiva dominates the landscape. Wide and still, at some points the channel is partially clogged with hyacinths.

You flow under SR 46, heading toward Katie's Landing, and beyond that to the St. Johns River and Konomac Lake, west of DeBary.

From Wekiva Falls the run to the lake is about 8 miles. You can shorten that by putting in at Katie's Landing on the north side of SR 46. Both Wekiva Falls and Katie's Landing charge put-in fees, and can provide boat rentals.

Hats and sunscreen are needed for this trip. There is little canopy. You will run into fishermen in motorboats, and occasionally jet skiers on the weekends. Watch out for speedboat traffic when you get to the St. Johns.

This is prime black bear country. They are rarely seen, but the population is rebounding. Most of the nuisance bear complaints last fall were in this area of Seminole and Lake counties.
