White EgretPerhaps best known for the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and it's great birdwatching, Canaveral Seashore has miles of great hiking throughout a varied coastal ecosystem. There are several small loop trails off the main roads and near parking areas. You can also hike the 24 miles of beach. Just be sure to bring your sunscreen, bug repellent and water.

Location: Canaveral National Seashore is located on the East Coast of Central Florida between New Smyrna Beach and Kennedy Space Center. The Seashore is accessible via Interstate 95 (Exit 80 and Exit 84), US 1, State Road 44 and State Road 406/402.

Fees: $5 per vehicle, $1 per walk in, $28 annual pass.

Water: Bring your own, as the only fresh water is at the Information Center.

Hours: 6am - 8pm in summer, 6am - 6pm in winter. The south district of the Park, near Titusville closes three days before a shuttle launch and reopens the day after a successful launch.

Camping: Limited primitive camping is permitted on the beach Nov 1 - Apr 30 and on designated islands all year around. Permit is required. call: (904) 428-3384.
